Bartel Farm is nestled in a valley on the banks of the Whitewater River in central Kansas. In addition to rich bottomland and upland pastures of native bluestem, the dense woods of oak, sycamore, and walnut provide shelter for countless whitetail deer, winter nesting for more than a hundred wild turkey, and a rookery for Great Blue Heron. There are also ponds for fishing and recreation. However, the focus of Bartel Farm is the elk.

We have grown our elk herd from four animals to seventy. Using artificial insemination and selective breeding, we have been steadily improving our genetics and all of our elk are registered purebred with NAEBA.
